Forest Park

We had an amazing time at Forest Park on Tuesday.  On Monday Erin and Ethan came in and did a pre-lesson.  The children discussed and observed herbivore, carnivores and omnivores.  Ask your child how to identify each by their teeth.

On Tuesday we went over to Macleah Park and had a great Field Experience with Ethan and Erin and some other volunteers.

Bunny Art

 Today we made bunnies.  We used our hands to trace a shape on the paper for the bunny's head, After that we made dots on the edges on the paper not totally on the edge but close to the edge and then we connected the lines to the face and those were the ears. The eyes were just little dots with the nose we made a dot in the middle of the bunny's head and then made to little shapes they weren't exactly the same but they were close to being the same also we made the teeth one was bigger than the other.

Skype Call With Kate Kelly From Microsoft

This morning we had a great conversation with Kate Kelly from Microsoft.  She works on the Cortana Project at Microsoft.  The kids had some great questions for Kate.  

Thanks Kate for being our first Skype call in the classroom.

Mrs. Bolger	I think it was cool that Kate had so many experiences before ending up at Microsoft.
Randy	I think the Skype was really awesome and that she helped with Cortana she can tell jokes.
liliana	I learn that we all need perseverance, integrity, and community.

Zamani	I learned that working is hard and her job is very confusing but if you use integrity, perseverance and community it will be better.
Edwin	I learned that it takes hard work to do what you want to do.
Kysen	I learned that she has a phone that she can talk to and she made the phone with her friends.
JOHN	I learned that Cortana can tell jokes.
Quinn	I learned about Cortana and her job. I think she is cool because she did all this cool stuff like the bus thing, airport, and space shuttle.
Fiala	I learned that her phone tells jokes.
Maylyn	I learned that it is hard to work at microsoft because you need to learn how to start your project how to finish and you need a lot of perseverance and integrity and its hard to work because sometimes she needs to work on something while she is working on other stuff too.

crystal	She lived in Canada.
Malcolm	I learned that you have to interview to get a job and microsoft has a thing like apple called siri
Kamara	I thought  it was really cool that she and her friends did a bus pull.
Jeremiah	I learned that they make these metal strips that are thin.
Curtise	There is a program called Cortana and it can make jokes and that it can say your name too.

First Mystery Hangout!

Our First Mystery Hangout!

On Monday we had our first ever Google Mystery Hangout.  We started by connecting with Sage and her mom via Google hangouts.  We had no idea where they were in the world.  They did not know where we were either.  We took turns asking questions with Sage and her mom.  After asking about 10 questions we learned that they were in Kyoto, Japan.  It was 2:00pm on Monday in the Portland and 6:00am Tuesday in Japan.  Sage was going to be getting ready to go to school after she spoke to us.  After we discovered where she was we asked her some questions about what life was like in Japan and she asked up questions about life int he U.S.  Stay tuned for more Mystery Hangouts from Room 100 and around the world.

Giving Feedback to our Friends

This afternoon we took some time to look at our classmates' advertisements in Google Drawing. We gave compliments as well as constructive feedback!
